Film

Filming is my favorite thing to do in DMA and the projects we did included: Personal Narrative, Shot for Shot Trailer, and my BPA project; a Team News Broadcast (which I included on the Home page).

Personal Narrative

This short film is a personal narrative about my family. Whether it be my biological family, gymnastics family, band family, or work family, they've always got my back, and I love every one of them.

Animate

For this section, I had to make an animated short from scratch: create an original character, draw a storyboard, make scene by scene, frame-by-frame, add camera effects, add sound effects and music, export it, and then make a thumbnail. Before any of that, I did many exercises and learned techniques that I would later implement in my final animation project.

FINAL ANIMATION

Lilac: Overcome

Lilac is a young adult dolphin who endured criticisms for her appearance, such as her freckles and large tail, when she was in middle school and high school. Her parents were her biggest encouragers and told her that she was beautiful just the way she was, and they gifted her with a hand mirror to remind her of that every time she looks at herself in that mirror. This was the last thing given to her by her parents before they passed.

This short animation shows Lilac taking a trip down memory lane; the good and the bad moments. She goes back to the times she would get teased and how much she missed her parents, but at the end, it shows how she overcame those obstacles and became the dolphin she aspired to be. Despite being brought down by her peers regarding her looks, she became a model and is able to showcase the unique beauty her parents adored about her.

Photoshop

My Photoshop projects include a digital painting, a composition photo, a series of edited self-portrait photos, a series of photos taken with different lenses, and light graffiti.

Six-Word Memoir

I created this piece to externalize my inner thoughts because this is how I truly feel. It's a bad habit, but I've always been one to compare myself to others and I've gotten better but I've always struggled to see how I would ever measure up to my sister. I look up to her, always have, but I don't think I could ever live up to the unbelievably high expectations that she's created in everyone's minds, because now I feel like whenever people view me, they see her and expect me to be as great as her. That's what I wanted to convey in this piece.

Scanography

Let the Adventure Begin.jpg

I used a scanner to create these pieces. My piece on the left is called 'Portal'. I dragged my shoe across the scanner to create a distorted look and cause it to look like it's traveling through a portal. For my piece on the right I gathered these materials and created a composition to tell a story about my dream to travel in the future. I named it, 'Let the Adventure Begin.'

Client Design

I designed the branding for our winter Kings Junior High Musical, You're A Good, Man Charlie Brown. I designed a poster, playbill, yard sign, social media profile picture and banner, and a T-shirt mockup. I had some trouble coming up with initial sketches, but I eventually landed on a minimalistic silhouette design that the musical director liked and I went from here.

Digital Painting

This is a digital painting of my guinea pig, Yogurt.' It was a bit of a challenge to find the right brushes to use, but once I figured that out, it was just a matter of getting the right colors. I love how it turned out

Contour Line

Contour - Gause.jpg

Using contour line, I traced the ferris wheel and building which took some time. Afterwards, I duplicated the ferris wheel and just took the outline and made it bigger. I then used a watercolor brush to add some texture in the background.

Double Exposure

Double Exposure - Gause.jpg

I used a technique called double exposure and I changed RGB channels to make myself appear in different colors.

Me, Myself & I

I wanted to create something that showed how I feel on the inside sometimes as opposed to my "alter egos" around myself in the middle. I sometimes feel hidden and invisible and the "me's" surrounding me that are more bold and confident are the sides of myself I wish I expressed more.

Fragmented Faces

Fragmented Faces-Braden - final product (darker background).jpg

I took multiple photos of my brother, Braden, and combined them together using a soft brush to "meld" his faces into one. This is definitely my most unique work of art, but I love weird and abstract things, so I thought it was fun to do something like this.

BRE

Gause-Significant Portrait (Bre).jpg

I chose my older sister, Breauna, for my significant portrait because I've always looked up to her and she's one of my biggest role models. She's the best big sister and I don't know what I'd do without her. Love you sis!

Lion Silhouette & Text.jpg

My faith is a big part of me and my favorite verse is Joshua 1:9 because it's a good reminder, especially in this unpredictable and terrifying world we live in. I decided on a lion roaring on a rock because lions symbolize fearlessness and strength and I just thought it would be a perfect silhouette to go with this verse.
